Record-holder scoops turkey plucking challenge

The Champions of Champions turkey plucking competition was won by the Guinness Book of Records holder Vincent Pilkington.

Holding the record since 1980 for the fastest turkey pluck, in 90 seconds, Pilkington is one the longest-standing record holders. His competitor, Paul Kelly holds the record for the fastest to pluck three, while this competition was the fastest to pluck two 17lb turkeys.

The contest between the two rivals was held at Kelly’s home on Little Claydon’s Farm, near Chelmsford, Essex.

Pilkington finished in 11 minutes 33 seconds. Recalling his record-breaking time, he said: “Remember I’m retired now but I still like to keep my hand in helping local farmers with plucking their turkeys at Christmas around where I live at Cootehill in County Cavan — and it paid off today.”
