Holland’s Pies to recognise war veterans

Pie makers, Holland’s Pies, has created a limited-edition commemorative pie, which it intends to give away to war veterans in the north west of England.

The Lancashire pie-maker is asking the public to nominate local war heroes to receive one of 10 dozen pies throughout November. The pie itself is based on a post-war recipe or corn beef, potatoes, onions and carrots and Holland’s shortcrust pastry.

Pie enthusiasts are encouraged to nominate local veterans via Facebook and email (hollandsHeroes@hollandspies.co.uk) with a short statement on who they are nominating and why.

Holland’s Pies, which was established in 1854, has supported war veteran charities Royal British Legion and Poppy Scotland Poppy Appeal, which runs the British Poppy Run, offering runners the limited-edition pies as they crossed the finishing line.
