The joint managing directors of Edinburgh-based haggis producer Macsweens have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to food and drink at the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards.

James and Jo Macsween, the third generation of their family to work in the business, were granted the award for their record in reaching new customers through innovative product development and inspirational marketing.

“The award hopefully shows that our efforts to change perceptions of haggis with innovation and new products are really being recognised,” said James, whose family has been in the haggis business for 62 years.

Macsween launched its first Special Editions in 2013 – Venison haggis and Three Bird haggis – and these were followed in 2014 by Wild Boar haggis, Moroccan Spiced Vegetarian haggis, and Chocolate & Chilli black pudding.

Special Editions have been designed to attract new consumers into the haggis market, and to complement Macsween’s ‘Traditional’ and ‘Vegetarian’ haggis.
