Meat marketing consultant Rob Smith is set to take on his biggest challenge yet.

On 2 August, Smith will be taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on behalf of charity Farm Africa.

Farm Africa works closely with Africa’s farmers to ensure they have the equipment they need and know how to utilise their land in the most efficient way. By making sure there is enough food when harvest time approaches, the charity aims on seeing an end to famine in the region.

“I have decided to take the plunge and take on London’s biggest cycle ride in support of Farm Africa – a different kind of charity working to end hunger in rural Africa,” said Smith.

“I was shocked to learn that hunger kills more people worldwide than tuberculosis, malaria and AIDS combined.

“Farm Africa’s work is not about short-term food aid or quick-fix solutions. It’s about working on the ground to help Africa’s families feed themselves, for the long term.”

Before operating his own marketing consultancy – where he still utilises his knowledge of the meat industry by specialising in the sector – Smith acted as group communications controller for Vion Food Group.

“If you would like to see me struggle my way around this 100-mile route, please sponsor my challenge, and help me to help lift families in Africa, out of hunger, for good.”
