Butcher creates most expensive sausage

A butcher has made a sausage that costs £37 a pop. The banger is made from pork from the rare Mangalitsa pig, known by some as the Kobe beef of pork.

As well as the posh pork, the sausage, made by butcher Kevin Turner of A Turner & Sons, also contains black truffle shavings, powdered cep mushrooms and Valdeon Picos Blue cheese which has been matured in Spanish caves. Turner also marinates the pork, which has a dark colour and intense flavour, in Cockburn’s 1947 vintage port.

“We know people like to treat themselves every now and then, so why not with a posh banger?” said Turner. “Sausages are a firm favourite all over the UK and we really wanted to push the boat out and create something distinguished for British Sausage Week, for those sausage connoisseurs with a more discerning taste.”

British Sausage Week is a promotional platform run by AHDB Pork for the benefit of the industry. Now in its 18th year, British Sausage Week runs from 2-8 November.
