France names British lamb product of the year

Quality Standard Mark British lamb has been voted as the “best product of the year” by French consumers.

Vacuum-packed cannon of lamb came out on top of a list in a competition organised by Dutch market research agency Q&A.

After manufacturers and distributors entered their products in an online competition, consumers evaluated them against one another. The winner was determined by a combined score of value for money, presentation, satisfaction rating, likelihood to repeat purchase and recommendation.

Awards were available in 18 product sections, with the Quality Standard Mark lamb cannon winning the butchery category.

“We are delighted that French consumers have voted for this Quality Standard Mark product from Great Britain in such a resounding way,” said Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) export manager for France Remi Fourrier.

“This type of public endorsement for British meat is unprecedented in France, but it reflects an awful lot of hard work which is done each day behind the scenes by AHDB in both France and the UK.

“The winning product is innovative, fits into the modern lifestyle, but, most importantly, is tender and tasty.”

Last year, 45,000 consumers contributed towards the study from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, although this is the first time France has taken part.

The winning product is part of a range of Quality Standard Mark products branded ‘Quart de Coeur’ and processed by MVS in Douai in the north of France.
