Dalziel gets into Christmas spirit by helping homeless

National retail butchery specialist Dalziel Ltd has partnered with world boxing title contender Josh Warrington to help the homeless in Leeds this Christmas season.

The 25-year-old boxer is sponsored by Dalziel. Together, they have pledged to provide a year’s supply of meat to St George’s Crypt to help feed the homeless community in Leeds.

The organisation will prepare around 50 meals each day throughout 2017 available on a first come and first served basis, with produce supplied by Dalziel’s Leeds depot.

They will also be supplied with food from Drovers beef, Glenvale pork, Oakwell gammon and Gressingham turkey once a week for a whole year – enabling them to produce 350 meals a week throughout the year.

“We are amazed at how much St George’s Crypt does to help people in their hour of need, which is why we’re proud to provide our support,” said Jim McLean, meat sales manager at Dalziel Glasshoughton.

“With huge thanks to our suppliers Dunbia, Pork Traders, Westvlees and Gressingham Foods, we are committing to a year-round campaign aimed at helping the most vulnerable in society.”

Warrington said that he is excited to be part of this project in helping the under-privileged. “We can all play a role in supporting those less fortunate than us that sleep on the streets in Leeds and it’s great to have this opportunity to help out. Giving them food each week through 2017 is a small step to getting them back on the road to recovery.”

Chef at the Nurture programme based at St George’s Crypt, David Pilling, also praised the initiative. He said: “We at the Crypt are so grateful to Dalziel and their supplier partners for the tremendous support they are providing to us in donating a large quality of meat,” he explained. “This will make such a difference to our clients.

“Nurture offers jobs and volunteering opportunities to former Crypt clients and the generosity of Dalziel will not only provide fantastic meals in the run up to Christmas, but also will enhance the training opportunities for our team in preparing these meals.”

Dalziel has been a specialist supplier to the retail butchery industry since 1926. The firm supplies ingredient, butchers’ sundries and packaging for quality frozen and chilled meat, whilst Warrington is currently the WBC International and European featherweight champion and has previously held the English, British and Commonwealth featherweight titles.
