James Burden completes acquisition of Kentas of London

Smithfield meat and poultry wholesaler James Burden Limited has completed its acquisition of Kentas of London.

Describing the move as a “natural extension for James Burden”, it is hoped the acquisition of Kentas, which has an annual turnover in excess of £6 million, will increase its customer profile and range of cooked meats and delicatessen items for retail and catering businesses.

Kentas customers have been advised that they will continue to receive service and deliveries in the usual way, both in person at the Smithfield premises and from new vehicles in the James Burden delivery fleet.

James Burden is already the largest trader on Smithfield Market, with six outlets offering meats, poultry, game, provisions and delicatessen supplies. It is part of the Burden Group, which also includes direct-to-consumer offering meatnoveg.co.uk and shipping supplier Cavendish Ships Stores.

According to James Burden, the business anticipates to continue the steady growth it has experienced over the past few years, despite the “current challenging exchange rate fluctuations”.
