Ireland joins the World Butchers’ Challenge

Ireland has become the fifth team to join the World Butchers’ Challenge, with preparations already underway to encourage participants.

In an invitation to the nation’s butchers, Butchery Excellence Ireland said: “The World Butcher’s Challenge is coming to Ireland and we are on the hunt for Ireland’s Top Butchers to join Team Ireland and compete in the greatest butchery skills event the world has ever seen.

“We are looking for professional butchers who will commit to focused butchery training sessions that will determine what Ireland as a nation has to offer. To represent Ireland will be a great honour for all the butchers chosen and it will be a magnificent platform for you personally and for your butcher shop to show the world just how good you are.”

The World Butchers’ Challenge 2018 will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The event also includes teams from Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and current champions France.

Given it will be the home team for the event, Butchery Excellence Ireland has signalled a strong intent to win. “This is a home venue for Irish butchers and make no mistake we intend to take the World Butcher’s Challenge Crown from Team France at Belfast 2018.”

Full professional butchery training sessions begin February 2017. Those interested are encouraged to log on to and fill out the application form.
