Marks & Spencer introduces low-calorie pork sausage

To help people stick to their New Year’s diet, Marks & Spencer (M&S) has launched a Skinny Sausage, containing as few as 78kcals.

At 3% fat, the sausages contain 89% less fat than a standard pork sausage and are produced using 100% British outdoor-bred pork. The recipe has been in the development stage for years, with the final product just as tasty as the traditional, according to the retailer.

“January is depressing enough, but our sausages mean customers can enjoy a few guilty pleasures without having to worry about putting on weight,” said Helen Seward, M&S nutritionist.

“Customers will be able to prepare the most health-conscious dishes on the high street, meaning they don’t need to forgo a little bit of what they fancy, even if they’re following a calorie- or fat-controlled diet.”

The Skinny Sausages follow in the footsteps of M&S’ Skinny Beef Burgers and Skinny Mini Meatballs introduced last year. They are also joined by a reduced-fat bacon.

The Skinny Sausages are available at £3.20/400g.
