Team GB entries close this week

Time is running out to apply to become part of Team GB and take on the rest of the globe at the World Butchers’ Challenge 2018.

Applicants have until Friday 28 April to register and the final team will be selected by captain Tom Wood, Danny Upson of Dalziel and Keith Fisher of the Institute of Meat.

As part of the selection process, there will be a butchery challenge in May, where applicants have the chance to show off their skills. If a butcher is selected, they will be expected to attend training sessions and practices at Leeds City College in June, July, September, October, January and February.

As well as Great Britain, other nations competing include Australia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa and the USA.

The competition takes place in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 20-22 March 2018. Teams will each cut and prepare a side of beef, whole lamb and side of pork to showcase their butchery skills

The 2016 World Butchers’ Challenge was won by France, who broke New Zealand’s stranglehold on the title.
