Last call for National Meat Products Competition

Butchers seeking to showcase their talents at the National Federation of Meat & Food Traders' (NFMFT's) National Meat Products Competition must register entries by close of play on Friday 19 May.

Judging, involving a group of industry experts, takes place at the Meatup exhibition in Milton Keynes on Wednesday 24 May. The annual contest also takes place every other year at the Foodex trade show, organised by Meat Trades Journal publisher William Reed, and aims to highlight the talents and creativity of butchers and producers from across the UK.

A total of 22 award categories embrace products ranging from sausages, bacon, burgers and charcuterie to pasties, pies, Scotch eggs and ready meals. This year also sees the introduction of an award for Young Sausage Maker. Competitors receive Gold, Bronze or Silver certificates for meeting the relevant standards.

In addition to trophies for gaining the top slots, individual category winners also compete to win the titles of Supreme Product Champion and Supreme Sausage Champion. The victor in the sausage category goes forward for automatic entry into Meat Trades Journal’s Champion of Champions sausage awards.

“We urge butchers everywhere to get involved in the NFMFT National Meat Products Competition,” said Jayne Cottrell, NFMFT marketing manager. “It’s a great opportunity to show off what you can do and pick up valuable PR.”
