Allergen threat sparks NI burger recall

Musgrave NI has recalled its Gourmet Cheese & Bacon Burgers because they contain unlabelled soya, an allergen.

All ‘use by’ dates for the 620g four-packs of the burgers are affected, but no other products had been recalled, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed.

A recall notice issued by Musgrave NI, the buying group whose symbol group store fascias include Centra and Supervalu, stated: “It has been brought to our attention that our Gourmet Cheese & Bacon Burgers contain soya, which is not declared on the label. Therefore this product is a potential health risk to those who are allergic to soya.

“If you have purchased this product please return it to the point of purchase for a full refund. In the event of any queries please contact our customer services on 02890 787199.”

The FSA said the product was “a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya”. “Distribution of the affected stock is limited to Centra and Supervalu stores in Northern Ireland,” it added in a statement.
