Butcher’s Shop of The Year Awards welcomes all

Butchery businesses of all shapes and sizes, not just traditional high street outlets, are invited to enter Meat Trades Journal’s Butcher’s Shop of The Year Awards 2017.

Butchers these days come in a wide variety of formats. There are some cracking high street shops that are doing a roaring trade and are great examples of the craft to the whole industry. However, increasingly butchers are adapting to the needs of modern shoppers, diversifying into a variety of models, from farm shops and out-of-town outlets to concessions in garden centres and online butchery retailers.
These businesses are all eligible to enter the regional award groups: Midlands & East of England, North of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and South of England.

Winners of the regional categories are in the running for the overall title Butcher’s Shop of The Year 2017 and can use the logo for promotional purposes at their store or in marketing materials.

Butcher’s Shop of The Year also has dedicated categories for Online Butchery Business of the Year, Farm Shop of The Year and Food Hall Butchery Business of The Year.

Butchers of any kind that have launched since 1 June 2015 are eligible to enter the New Butchery Business of The Year category and butchers that have launched an innovative product or service over the past year should also consider entering the Innovation of The Year category. There is also a Halal Butcher’s Shop of The Year, in recognition of this growing trend.

The awards are not just about showcasing and promoting excellent butcher’s shops either. Meat Trades Journal is also proud to encourage the next generation of young, promising newcomers to butchery through its Young Butcher of The Year Award, so look out for this as a way to reward new talent.

Meat Trades Journal is sponsored by Lucas Ingredients, ScobiesDirect.com, Tican Chilled and HCC - Meat Promotion Wales. The drinks reception is sponsored by Middleton Foods. The awards ceremony this year is taking place on Monday 6 November at London’s County Hall, on the South Bank of the Thames near the London Eye.

Celebrations will dovetail with another mainstay of the butchery calendar – the ultimate sausage contest Champion of Champions, which is taking place at the same venue in the morning. Participants will come together for lunch, followed by the Butcher’s Shop of The Year Awards in the afternoon.

For more information on the awards, visit butchershopoftheyear.co.uk, email catherine.lyne@wrbm.com or call her on 01293 610439. Deadline for entries is 7 August.
