Heck launches low-fat pork sausages

Sausage producer Heck has expanded its range with the introduction of Super Slim low-fat pork sausages.

The new product will add to the sausage producers’ ‘healthy eating’ options, which include lean ‘Spring Chicken Sausages’, and vegetarian products.

The Super Slim Sausages will initially be available at Sainsbury’s in packs of 400g for £3, and contain just 2.7% fat.

“Healthy innovation is at the heart of Heck and since launching our low fat chicken sausages three years ago, it’s always been in the plan for us to create a credible, low-fat pork sausage but it’s been more of a challenge to strike the right balance between low fat, great taste and decent meat content, and we didn’t want to launch until we were certain we’d got it right,” said Andrew Keeble, Heck co-founder.

“Although all sausages need a little fat to make them taste good, we’ve hit on a recipe that has far less fat without compromising taste and Sainsbury’s has really got behind it. We’re looking forward to getting the sausages on shelf and finding out what our customers think.”

Heck’s Super Slim sausages are made using a traditional family recipe. The company’s traditional sausages are made with 97% British pork meat shoulder, but the new variety is made using 65% from an ultra-lean cut. It’s combined with high protein pea flour to keep fat levels lower and reduce calorie count, regular gluten-free crumb, herbs and seasoning.

Heck has recently opened a new factory in Sinderby, North Yorkshire, where it has created 50 new jobs.
