Northern Irish butcher launches booze-infused bangers

Maguire Meats of Irvinestown has unveiled two unconventional alcohol sausages to inspire customers this barbecue season. 

The Northern Irish butchers last week launched a vodka and Red Bull sausage, followed by a Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and Club Orange sausage introduced on Wednesday.

Speaking to Meat Trades Journal, Keelan Maguire of the business said that his team were developing some unique flavours for customers this barbecue season. When creating flavours, “the crazier the better”, said Maguire.

“It’s [the feedback] has been very good actually,” he explained. “The vodka and Red Bull sausage took off all together. They’re flying out. The Captain Morgan ones have only started and there’s been a lot of demand for them at the minute. It’s looking good so far.”

Whilst the vodka and Red Bull flavoured banger is proving more popular at the moment, Maguire said this is probably because they have been available for a longer time.

Moving forward, the butcher is developing an Orchard Thieves Irish cider and pork burger. The business doesn’t just use alcohol as inspiration for its products. It has also launched a potato and cheese and onion crisp sausage.

The creative sausages come ahead of Meat Trades Journal’s inaugural Big Sausage Week, taking place between 31 October and 06 November. The event has been created to provide a platform for sausage producers across the UK, celebrating all things about the Great British banger. The week will build up to the annual Champion of Champions competition, designed for any sausage producer that has won a recognised competition between 01 July 2016 and 01 September 2017.
