Welsh levy board introduces head of industry development

Welsh red meat levy board Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) has welcomed the new head of its industry development team.

John Richards has been appointed to the role at HCC, which will see him strengthen the organisation’s work with farmers and processors during this critical period.

“HCC’s role in providing authoritative and up-to-date analysis of consumer and market trends is needed more now than ever,” commented Richards. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of ensuring farmers have ready access to all the information they need to make informed business decisions as we face these challenging times.”

Richards is a native to Llandovery and has an extensive background working in agriculture. He trained as an economist for the industry and has served as industry information executive for HCC. Richards has also previously worked at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society.

He concluded: “HCC is also in a unique position in that its remit includes the whole of the red meat supply chain. We’ll be looking to work with everyone in the sheep, beef and pork sectors to achieve better shelf-life and on-farm efficiencies, to ensure that we have a profitable and sustainable industry in the future.”
