Aldi launches Christmas burrito

Discounter Aldi is extending its range of Christmas products with a brand new Specially Selected British Beef Brisket Burrito. 

Available for £7.99 throughout the winter months in stores nationwide, the new burrito comes as part of the supermarket’s strategy to introduce 160 new festive products.

Aldi has taken the classic burrito and put a twist on it. Inspired by the ‘burrito trend’ on social media, the Christmas burrito is made using tender, slow-cooked pulled beef brisket in a porcini mushroom sauce, before being wrapped in a fluffy Yorkshire Pudding.

Designed to serve five people, the innovative product comes complete with a red wine and onion gravy.

Aldi, which was named Retailer of the Year at Meat Trades Journal’s SuperMeat & Fish Awards last month, reported record sales for last year.

For the year ending 31 December 2016, UK and Ireland sales reached £8.7 billion, representing an increase of 13.5%.

Adding to its success, sales for Aldi grew 15.6%, taking its market share to 6.9% for the 12 weeks ending 10 September 2017, according to Kantar Worldpanel.

Moving forward, Aldi is set to open an additional 150 stores next year as part of its ‘Project Fresh’ strategy. The £300 million investment is designed to create more in-store space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges. By the end of 2018, 250 stores will have launched under the new format.
