Chorizo recalled from Costcutter due to health risk

Retailer Costcutter has issued a recall on its Independent Sliced Chorizo amid fears of health risks.

The product, available in 80g packs, has been withdrawn as a result of incorrect labelling. Due to its milk components, which have not been included on the packaging, it may pose a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The Independent Sliced Chorizo Dry Cured and Seasoned with Paprika has a use-by date up to and including 13 November 2017. No other Costcutter products are affected.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised anybody who has purchased the product not to consume it, but instead return it to the store where it was bought where a full refund will be issued.

The relevant allergy support organisations will be notified, who will inform their members of the recall. “The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers,” said a statement from the FSA.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.”
