Dicksons Pork Butchers secures retailer listings

South Shields-based Dicksons Pork Butchers has expanded its wholesale presence by landing new deals with two well-known supermarkets.

A selection of the company’s pies and pastries can now be found in 114 of The Co-operative and 36 Iceland stores across the north east.

“Growing our wholesale division remains a key focus for Dicksons, as we look to capitalise on our increased production capacity following our recent factory improvement programme,” said Chris Hayman, managing director of Dicksons.

“We are delighted to be working with two well-regarded names like The Co-op and Iceland and are confident that the new deals will be the start of mutually, beneficial long-term relationships, which will help us to grow the availability of our products across the north east and beyond.”

This development comes as part of the firm’s strategy to grow its wholesale base while also growing its regional retail chain. To achieve these goals, it has invested in its production capacity.

Alongside the company’s traditional favourite pies and pastries, Dicksons will be stocking regional options in the above-mentioned stores, including Dicksons’ saveloys, pease pudding and jumbo sausage rolls.

Earlier this year, the family business invested in improving its packaging. New-style boxes were designed to improve the visibility of products and extend their shelf life.

“The new packaging of our pie range has been very well-received by Dicksons’ customers and our retail partners,” commented Hayman.

“Despite representing a significant investment for the business, we believe it is important that the packaging reflects the high quality of our products; without a doubt, the new-style packaging has been instrumental in opening up new wholesale opportunities for us.

“We are delighted that the investment we have made in both packaging and our production facilitates is beginning to offer the longer-term returns for our wholesale division, as planned.”

Dicksons Pork Butchers’ products can already be found in retailers including Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco.
