Compass foodservice deal sets UK record

10 December, 2010

Compass Group UK & Ireland and the Brakes Group have signed a partnership which both companies are describing as the UK's largest ever catering distribution contract.

The agreement will start in 2012 with Brakes responsible for delivering over £300m worth of goods every year to 5,500 Compass sites across the UK. The contract is for a minimum of seven years and was signed following a competitive tender process.

Compass and Brakes will create a national UK supply chain capability to consolidate the distribution of products such as meat into a network capable of providing Compass sites with its product needs. The partnership will build on a similar strategy implemented in Ireland in 2009.

Brakes Group's businesses include Prime Meats Speciality Butcher and Wild Harvest, supplying fine food for chefs.

Philip Jansen, Brakes Group chief executive, said: "By combining our industry expertise we will deliver great food, best in class logistics and excellent customer service. Our commitment to distribute fresh and locally sourced products means we can help support Compass deliver exceptional service across all of its sectors and client."
