FDF poaches NFU director

A top National Farmers’ Union director is to step across the divide and join the food manufacturing sector. Terry Jones will be joining the Food & Drink Federation as director of communications.

Jones is currently at the NFU as director of corporate affairs and, until recently, was the union’s acting director of communications.

The news sees the completion of a trio of connected job shifts, which has seen the current FDF director of communications, Julian Hunt, take up a role with Coca-Cola as vice-president for public affairs and communications, with the predecessor in that role, Erika Coghlan, taking up the role of director of communications at the NFU.

According to the FDF, Jones’ role will include responsibility for media relations, the health and well-being agenda, IT and new media and public affairs.

FDF director general Melanie Leech said: “I am delighted to welcome Terry to the FDF team. Terry joins us at an exciting time when the contribution of the food and drink industry to the UK’s economic recovery is increasingly being recognised. His skills and experience working within the food chain make him ideally suited to help FDF continue to champion the vital contribution of our sector.”

Jones added: I have always enjoyed working with FDF, admiring the professionalism of its staff and the results it achieves on behalf of its members. I am therefore very pleased to be joining FDF and relish the opportunity of working for businesses in the next link of the food chain.”
