Subway overtakes McDonald’s as largest restaurant chain
Subway, the US-owned sandwich chain, has overtaken McDonald’s as the world’s largest restaurant chain.
The chain claims that it has 33,749 sites around the world, compared with 32,737 for McDonald’s.
It recently made a major push into international markets with its franchise model and has restaurants in 95 countries. In comparison, McDonald’s has restaurants in 117 countries across the globe, with more than 75% of its outlets being franchises.
