Mattessons launches new range ham range

Cooked meat processor Mattessons has launched a new range of sliced meats aimed squarely at the sandwich market, as ham overtakes cheese as the most popular sandwich filling in the UK.

According to the latest research from Kantar Worldpanel, over 14.6million ham sandwiches are now consumed each year.

The well-known brand, which is part of Kerry Foods, will sell three wafer-thin sliced meats – original and chargrilled wafer-thin ham, and Texan BBQ chicken – as well as two thicker, marinated products in original and sweet roast ham flavours.

The range will come in a re-sealable pack and will be exclusively stocked at Asda stores nationwide.

Nisha Kaur, brand manager at Kerry Foods, said: “We’re continually looking to innovate our cooked meat offering and respond to the evolving needs of consumers. With over 14 million ham sandwiches consumed a year, our new Mattessons sandwich meats answer consumers’ daily dilemma of how to pack flavour into the humble ham sandwich. As the experts in cooked meats, our new and exciting flavoursome range has been specially marinated to ensure a flavour-filled sandwich.”

The new range marks a return to the company’s roots, as Mattessons was the first brand to introduce pre-packed sliced meat to the UK back in 1970.
