New head of marketing for Eblex

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has announced that Mike Whittemore has been appointed to the new position of trade team marketing manager for Eblex.

Whittemore, who was previously retail project manager with the organisation, has 38 years’ experience of working in the meat industry and has been with Eblex since 2004. He has also previously worked with Baxters Butchers, Sainsbury’s, Asda, the Meat & Livestock Commission and Somerfield.

His new post will involve overseeing all of Eblex’s trade marketing activity and work with the supply chain. This includes ongoing work on carcase utilisation and new cuts, liaison with retailers and in-store promotions, projects within the foodservice sector, trade publication advertising, promotion of the Quality Standard Mark and Red Tractor promotion at a trade level.

“This role has a very wide remit and there are a lot of challenges ahead, but I am thoroughly looking forward to tackling these head-on and continuing to work hard with the English beef and lamb supply chain to stimulate demand for our quality products,” he said.

“This is a great way for me to start the year. There is so much experience and enthusiasm within Eblex, not just in the trade marketing team but across the whole organisation, and I am delighted to be a part of helping to drive the sector forward.”

Peter Hardwick, head of trade development with Eblex, said: “Mike is a third-generation worker in the meat trade and has a wealth of experience, which has been invaluable to us to date and will continue to be in the future.

“This appointment gives an even greater level of co-ordination and strategic direction for our trade marketing activity.”
