Young butcher competition entrants announced

Entrants representing England in an international young butcher competition based in Holland have been announced as Matthew Gothard and Luke Haigh.

The competition was organised by the International Butcher Confederation and the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMT). Support has come in the form of sponsorship from Eblex, Bpex, Meat Training Council, Worshipful Company of Butchers, RAPS, Gesame, Weddel Swift and Leeds City College.

It was announced that Gothard and Haigh would represent England after two days of assessments, which follwed months of hard work as well as six days of intensive coaching at Leeds City College. There was a third entrant, but Kyle Mottram did not make the cut as competition guidelines only allow for two representatives per country.

Federation Chief Executive Roger Kelsey said: “Being so skilful and having given so much time and effort in the preparation all three deserved to go through. Unfortunately the rules only allow for two candidates and so I have asked Kyle Mottram to stand aside on this occasion and to resume his candidature for the competition at IFFA in Germany during May 2013”.
The 2012 competition is open to 18 to 23 year-olds and will be held in Holland on 17 and 18 of September. The candidates will be competing in six Disciplines over the two days for the title of ‘International Young Butcher’. In addition there will be a team prize together with presentations to the runners up and for category winners.
