Dorset farmer elected European beef vice-chairman

An NFU livestock board member has been elected as vice-chairman of a European beef working party.

Andy Foot, who is a fifth-generation farmer from Dorset, will take up his new role in the Copa-Cogeca Group immediately.

Foot’s main priority will be to gain good results for beef farmers from the current CAP reform negotiations.

As well as gaining the title of vice-chairman of the agricultural umbrella organisation’s beef working party, Foot also chairs the NFU Beef Group. He said: “I am delighted to be voted in as the group’s new vice-chairman. I would like to thank my predecessor Alistair Mackintosh for his sterling work in representing beef producers in the UK and across the EU, and I aim to pick up where he left off.

“I am passionate about a productive, profitable and sustainable beef industry in the EU and, as well as CAP, I will be looking to increase the role of research and innovation in agriculture and promoting red meat within the EU and to third world countries.”
