Further UK lamb exports to France
Delegates from supermarket chain Intermarché visited UK processors, producers and butchers in a bid to further export Quality Standard Lamb to France.
The visit, hosted by Eblex, welcomed 10 delegates from the biggest supermarket chain in Europe, including processor SCA Jean Rozé.
As the largest export market for UK lamb, France accounts for around 60%. The visit was mainly focused on new lamb cuts and whether there is an opportunity for them in the French market.
Southern senior regional manager for Eblex and organiser of the visit Dr Phil Hadley said: “France is a key export market for lamb. As such, the focus of the visit was very much on lamb production and new cutting techniques. It provided the perfect platform to discuss production and future opportunities for our products in what is already a strong market for us.”
In addition, the delegates from the chain, which holds 1,800 stores across Europe, visited an Angus breeder and another beef producer that supplies a massive retailer.
