Great Bacon Revolution Awards

The Great Bacon Revolution Awards have seen Hannan Meats and Lane Farm Country Food pick up gold awards ahead of the Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week (BCW) starting today (18 March).

Hannan Meats won gold for its Moyallon dry-cure bacon from Northern Ireland. It also won a bronze medal for its smoked variety of Moyallon dry-cured bacon.

Lane Farm Country Foods, based in Brandish, near Framlingham, Suffolk, won gold for its Oak Smoked Dry Cured Back Bacon and a silver for its Suffolk Pancetta.

Hannan Meats recently collected two gold awards in the Bpex Foodservice Award for Best Pork Products last week and was named Supreme Champion in the UK Great Taste Awards.

Peter Hannan, managing director of Hannan Meats, said: “Winning four major awards from such an important trade body as Bpex is a marvellous endorsement of the outstanding taste and quality of our portfolio of bacon products.

“Our focus has always been on creating deliciously different taste experiences for customers in both foodservice and retail. They are based on our rich heritage in dry-curing techniques, pioneered by our company, using only the best quality and completely traceable raw materials,” he added.

Co-founder of Lane Farm Ian Whitehead said: “It’s an honour to be awarded a gold award for our bacon, which is smoked in our own smoking room where we blend oak and beech chips to get the best possible flavour. We work hard to ensure our products meet the highest possible standards of quality and taste, so this recognition makes all the effort we put in worthwhile.”

A major focus for BCW is to drive wider understanding of quality-assured bacon and to enlighten consumers about different cures.

Whitehead continued: “There is so much poor-quality and imported bacon available, so it’s fantastic that this week promotes proper bacon and puts the spotlight on those producers that really care about their products.”
