Peanut butter the secret ingredient in best bacon butty

Olive magazine has announced the winners of the UK’s best bacon butty competition, which saw Rosemary Sheehan take the best home-made award and Bolster Moor Farm Shop won best cafe.

The entries were judged by Olive’s expert food team and John Torode from Masterchef, and Sheehan took the prize for her recipe that included peanut butter, mayonnaise and onion. Sheehan said: “This is an old family recipe. It’s my Dad who loves it as he’s a big peanut butter fan.”

Bolster Moor Farm Shop based in Golcar, Huddersfield, took the prize for its “award-winning home cured bacon”, according to the judges. Announcing its delight on its website, the farm shop said: “We’re over the moon to have been recognised in this way for our coffee shop. Now please excuse us, whilst we go and have a bacon butty.”

Additionally, Blues Cafe in London and the Perky Peacock in York were shortlisted for their entries among the hundreds of bacon butties that were entered in the competition.
