Video: Olsen Actuation stresses importance of modern tech
Engineering firm Olsen Actuation has stressed the importance of the UK food industry adopting modern technology in order to grow alongside competitors worldwide, in talks held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) on Wednesday.
The company arranged talks into the future of electric actuation and why it is the future of British engineering at the IET, which touched on issues faced by the food industry.
Olsen Actuation managing director Piers Olsen claimed said seemed as though the multinational food companies and all the major players “understand the benefits of electric actuation”.
Olsen continued: “They are under pressure to reduce their energy bills, they have inefficient factories with machines that are running on air and hydraulics, which is causing noise pollution, leaks and slip hazards.”
Electric actuation offers advantages such as improved cycle time, low noise and precision, which is why it could be a beneficial switch for processing and packaging companies.
“If these machine builders want to survive in the UK marketplace, they are going to have to modify their designs with 21st century technology, so that they can sell their machines, because otherwise customers are going to choose somebody else. The parameters of selection are changing,” he added.
