Race day raises the cash for meat charity

More than £40,000 was raised by a meat trades charity through the kindness and daring of meat industry thrill-seekers.

Generous members of the meat trade came out in their dozens to support the Butchers’ and Drovers’ Charitable Institution (BDCI) and its good causes at an exhilarating race day at the Bedford Autodrome on Tuesday, 2 July.

Four members of the Meat Trades Journal team, along with many of the industry’s great and good, took to the tracks and bravely raced six different cars each in the Palmers race day for charity.

Chairman of the BDCI Richard Canvin praised all those who took part and thanked them for their time and efforts and support for such a good cause. He said: “It has been so well supported by the industry we’re trying to raise as much money as we can. We’ve got to find ways to make sure those funds are spent to help people in the industry - that’s what it’s all about.”
