FSA to look into listeriosis in NHS
Best practices for food provision to vulnerable patients will be explored by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) as part of new research.
The FSA is commissioning work to develop guidance that will focus on best practice in relation to providing food to pregnant women and their unborn children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
According to the FSA the focus is on patients who are at risk of contracting listeriosis while being treated at NHS hospitals. The work will form part of wider research carried out by the Listeria Risk Management Programme, which aims to reduce the number of listeriosis cases in the UK.
