Pork pies prove a hit in Hong Kong

Red Tractor-assured pork pies from Melton Mowbray were popular with the Chinese at the Restaurant & Bar show in Hong Kong.

Despite being surprised by the pies not being heated up, it was reported that the Chinese enjoyed the “porky spicy taste and crust”.

Bpex export manager JP Garnier says: “Our push on the Hong Kong market with added-value pork products has been successful, with some high-class supermarkets now presenting a British meat section with sausages and bacon. Premium pork is now on the menu of some of the best restaurants in Hong Kong and the number of brands and importers is also rising.

“Hong Kong is a large market on its own with a population of eight million, a sophisticated food culture, high purchasing power and no indigenous pork production. It is also the gateway to the huge Chinese market.”

Bpex and Eblex also presented sausages, bacon and other pork products at the show.
