Pig producer goes into administration
One of the largest outdoor-reared pig producers in the UK has gone into administration.
Family pig business Dent Ltd, based in Penrith, Cumbria is now being administered by Adrian Berry and Clare Boardman of Deloitte.
They were called in on 2 December and are now seeking a buyer for the business, which holds around 100,000 pigs over 80 farms across the north of England and the Midlands.
With 67 employees, the company has annual sales of nearly £40m and has previously been awarded a Leadership in Pig Welfare award by Compassion in World Farming for its commitment to ensuring a high quality of life for their pigs.
Berry said: “We will liaise closely with the company’s customers and will work with management and the contract farmers to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare are maintained.
“The business will continue to trade and a sale process is being undertaken, so no redundancies are planned at this stage.”
