Chuck the clucker, say neighbours

Owner defends pet chicken that housing association wants to oust

A Salford woman is to lose her pet chicken after the noisy bird ruffled a few feathers among neighbours. Nearby residents have complained that the chicken, which is kept in a bedroom, clucks loudly and pecks the walls. Janet Slater, 54, has been told by the Irwell Housing Association that three-year-old Squeak will be evicted. "They told me someone had complained about Squeak because they were worried about bird flu," Janet told the BBC. "It's ridiculous, Squeak doesn't pose a threat to anyone."
