Stage set for SuperMeat
The stage is set for the most comprehensive SuperMeat and Fish Awards since they were introduced in 1999.
A total of 26 stores from all parts of the UK are through to this year's grand final at London's prestigious Park Lane Hilton Hotel on 19 June.
Stores in Northern Ireland have made a welcome return to the competition this year and have been judged alongside those in Scotland, Wales and four
regions of England - the North, the Midlands and East, the South East and the South West.
At the final, the top three stores in each part of the country will be named. The UK's top three meat and top three fish counters will be revealed and, for the first time, awards will be given for the best meat and fish aisles.
The best smaller stores will also be identified and the awards will culminate with the top meat and fish stores being named, and the best overall UK store picked.
Winning products in 11 meat and fish categories, including new classes this year of best organic, healthy and new-to-market products, will also be revealed at the finals.
Another first for SuperMeat will be the announcement of the meat industry's Personality of the Year, sponsored by Interfood Technology.
Chairman of judges Fred A'Court said: "With so many new Awards this year, the judging has been particularly lengthy and exhaustive. Some fantastic winners and finalists have been identified."
The final will be hosted this year by TV sports presenter John Inverdale in front of an audience of 500 supermarket staff, suppliers, product developers and trade VIPs. Results will be published in a special SuperMeat brochure, out with MTJ on 22 June.
The awards cover Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda stores, all of which have also entered products, along with Waitrose and the Co-operative Group.
