Tutons opens new cutting plant
Turtons of Devon has opened a new cutting plant in Willand to process locally produced meat for the catering trade.
The facility has been designed to process optimally matured beef, lamb, pork and poultry from farms in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset.
The Willand site will serve the local market as well as the top-end London restaurants, which make up 80% of Turton's business.
MD Andrew Turton said many top restaurants in the capital liked the cachet of putting West Country meat on their menu. "Even in the current economic climate, we are finding there is still a strong demand for quality meat with the provenance we can provide," he said. "Our new facility will help us to fulfil that demand."
