Next claims potential for huge savings in refrigeration

Energy management company Next Control Systems said it could save the UK refrigerated storage industry millions of pounds.

Tim Bartholomew, MD of the Hampshire-based firm, said his company had installed a 55,000 refrigeration control and energy management system in a chilled store, which saved the retailer 60,000 in year one, helping it to win a major energy management award.

Savings in the store were achieved mainly through door monitoring, intelligent defrost, compressor run times and both floating suction and head pressure controls, said Next Control Systems.

"I am sure we can deliver similar savings on much of the UK's refrigerated storage capacity, because more than half of it is over 10 years old, with 17% over 35 years old," said Bartholomew.
