Perth butchery service saved
A Perth butchery service for small farmers has been bought by Vikki Banks, of Seriously Good Venison, after it was threatened with closure.
Banks took over the service after previous owner, Highland Drovers, decided to focus on marketing and selling its own beef. The business will now operate under the name Seriously Good Butchery.
The news is a boost for small producers in the area, as they have seen an increase in the number of meat service closures in recent years.
Banks said: “I’m passionate about the fantastic produce we have in Scotland and understand the pressures that small businesses like my own are facing. Losing this facility may well have been a blow too far for some businesses, so I’m committed to building up the excellent service which people have come to expect at Highland Drovers. We know about meat and we’ll be offering our bespoke service to trade and the public alike in the future.”
The businesswoman held the post of general manager at Fletchers of Auchtermuchty from 2009, before taking over what is now Seriously Good Venison Ltd in 2012.
