Pork supplier clinches Spanish deal

A Northern Irish meat processor is celebrating after landing a deal to supply a leading wholesaler in Spain.

The move will see Derry-based Doherty’s supply its own-branded traditional Irish pork sausages to Casa Westfalia in Girona. The deal will mean the company’s sausages will be sold across the entire Spanish market and marks the company’s first agreement of its kind outside of its UK and Irish markets.

In addition to its traditional recipe Irish pork sausages, Doherty’s will be supplying its gluten-free sausages which are proving increasingly popular with shoppers at its main UK customers, Tesco and Asda.

Brian McQuaid, Doherty’s sales manager, said: “The agreement with Casa Westfalia give us an important foothold, particularly in a key target market, the sizeable British and Irish communities in the Costas.

“Spain is one of the European markets that we’ve been targeting and our aim will be to build on the relationship with Casa Westfalia to grow sales. Experience gained in Spain will help us as we seek to expand into other European markets.”
