Welsh success at Food & Drink Expo

Exhibitors on the Food and Drink Wales stand reported a successful Food & Drink Expo 2014, benefiting from powerful branding, a prominent location and an exclusively Welsh showcase area.

Thanks to a large Welsh dragon hanging high above the show, the Food and Drink Wales stand could be seen from all corners of the exhibition at Birminghams NEC.

With a position right next to one of the main entrances, and the only showcase specific to one region at the event, Welsh exhibitors told MTJ they had had a great show.

Emily Davies from Capestone Organic Poultry, based in Pembrokeshire, said: Its our first time at the show and we didnt know what to expect. But weve been able to showcase under the Welsh banner, with a fantastic location right by the entrance. This area has been set up by the Welsh government and it has given us all a great identity.

Keith Smyton, head of Welsh governments food division, said a lot of time had been invested in the set-up. He told MTJ that it was planned more than a year ago.

He said: I wanted to rebrand it and extend it. Its important that this stand joins up Welsh companies. There are a lot of our businesses here and they are all doing well. It has been very busy and thats great.

We have a very dedicated and very professional team and they planned every facet.

Langfords Welsh Sausage Company, which supplies the Wetherspoon chain, Little Chef and 14,000 schools, was also exhibiting.

John Langford said: This is the best one Ive been to. People coming to the Welsh showcase area are spilling out onto our stand. Were all here together. Were also right by the front door you see us first and you see us last.

Welsh food is leading the way. Its at the top and buyers know that.

Other businesses at Food and Drink Wales included Roberts Country Fayre, Patchwork Pt, and Authentic Curries & World Foods.
