Sian Lloyd to present Welsh curry awards

ITV weather girl Siân Lloyd is to present the Welsh Curry House of the Year Awards, which will include a specially created Welsh lamb curry.

The awards, sponsored by Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC)- Meat Promotion Wales (HCC), have promoted the use of Welsh Lamb in the competition since 2007. The awards menu, created by chef Anand George and the Purple Poppadom team in Cardiff, will also be centred around Welsh Lamb.

Gwyn Howells, chief executive of HCC, said: “I am delighted that Welsh Lamb is so closely associated with this prestigious competition. The high quality of curries produced by restaurants across Wales is something to be admired. This has been confirmed by the judges who were tasked with tasting a wide variety of delicious dishes, all using Welsh Lamb, in the run-up to the final.”

Self-proclaimed “curry queen” Lloyd says: “I’m delighted to be hosting an event where it is the Welsh public whose votes start the process of finding the best curry house in Wales. The competition illustrates the strength of our love, as a nation, for curry. Spicing up our lives has its hidden secrets and I’m looking forward to finding out who comes out on top this year.”

The final three restaurants will be announced this Friday on BBC Radio Wales between 10am and 1pm, while the awards will be held on 28 April 2014.
