Butchers triumph at Scottish burger and BBQ awards
Two butchers picked up Diamond prizes at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards evaluations for speciality burgers and BBQ products.
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were handed out, but the highest praise was reserved for Mearns T McCaskie of Wemyss Bay and Scott Brothers of Dundee. The former received a Diamond award in the burger category for a Tex-Mex burger, while the latter picked up the top accolade in the BBQ category for its sweet chilli beef.
Nigel Ovens of Mearns T McCaskie was presented with his award at the recent regional meeting in Garfield House Hotel in Stepps, held by the event organisers, Scottish Craft Butchers. He said: “We try hard to come up with fresh ideas to excite our customers’ taste buds. This recognition proves that we have refined our recipe to popular tastes and we look forward to attracting new customers who are looking for something a little different.”
The products, all ready to sizzle on summer barbecues, were judged at the City of Glasgow College.
Ian Faulds, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, said: “We run these evaluations not just to award excellence but to underline the diverse product range that craft butchers offer. It is a good time to be a butcher because customers are becoming more adventurous with their tastes and they are always seeking out the assurance of provenance that shopping at a specialist provides.”
