Apprenticeships trailblazer discussed at butchery federation AGM
Lucianne Allen, Aubrey Allen’s sales and marketing director, presented the new butchery apprenticeships trailblazer at the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT) AGM in Coventry.
Allen has been working as chair of the Butchery Trailblazers Group and spoke passionately about this new approach to apprenticeships. She discussed the two-page ‘marketing’ document, which she hopes will “sell the sizzle and not the sausage” and encourage young people to take up butchery apprenticeships. She said to members: “This is about giving the control back to you – the people who know about it – and about encouraging young people into it.
“Suddenly butchery is quite a sexy thing to be a part of and we don’t want people to fall into it, we want them to want to do it. We want people to pick up this two-page document and say, ‘This is what I want to be’. My vision was to make this the best place in the world to learn butchery and make it so that they want to stay here.”
Allen said the current government was moving quickly with the trailblazer and wanted something in place before the next general election. She added: “It’s fair to say that they have been going hell for leather.”
