British beef and lamb presented to Austrian foodservice
Eblex continues to focus on exports and has showcased British beef and lamb in Vienna to the Austrian foodservice sector.
The levy board supplied premium beef and lamb for 50 delegates from Austrian hotels, restaurants and other foodservice outlets. Exports were top of the agenda at this year’s Eblex Conference, presented by food and farming minister George Eustice.
Eblex will make a similar trip to Cologne, Germany later this month.
Jean-Pierre Garnier, Eblex export manager, said: “These events are designed to boost the reputation of Quality Standard Mark lamb and beef and present it as the premium offer for the German and Austrian gastronomy sector. The positive reaction at the event in Vienna was very encouraging.
“While many chefs and food service suppliers in the region aren’t overly familiar with lamb cuts and beef matured on the bone from our heritage breeds, for example, they are increasingly embracing the taste and tenderness of our lamb and beef.
“We hope it will lead to an increased presence of lamb dishes, in particular, on menus in the region, as chefs look for high-quality alternatives to standard Austrian and German fare.”
