Sausage firm reports successful Paris show

Westaways Sausages enjoyed a successful Sial, selling a 40-foot container to South Korea, as well as sealing other deals and meeting potential customers, according to managing director Charles Baughan. 

The Westaways stand made up part of Eblex’s ‘St George’ set-up, which promoted English meat and its exporters to worldwide customers.

Baughan told he had enjoyed the show, which had been fruitful for him: “It’s got a real bite to it, actually. We’ve had some really serious enquiries and I’ve got some money in my bank from somebody who wished to place an order pro forma.

“We just sold a 40-foot container into South Korea, which is a new market for us, and that’s a substantial first order. We’ve had enquiries in from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and the Dominican Republic. We’ve been introduced to some customers in Thailand, who are also going to place an order as well.”

Baughan said the South Korean order, a container consisting of 22 pallets, was for a hypermarket chain in the country, which has 150 branches.

“It (Sial) is a fantastic place to meet people in the sector; everybody who’s anybody is here. Visitors at the show are 150,000 people from some 20 countries, people from all corners of the globe,” he added.
