Westaways Sausages included in Business is GREAT advent campaign

Westaways Sausages has been featured in a government campaign to promote small firms at Christmas.

The ‘Business is GREAT’ campaign is running an online advent calendar, featuring 24 businesses, one each day, in the run-up to Christmas. Westaways featured yesterday on day 12 because of its exporting success, most recently securing small deals in foodservice outlets in Barbados.

Charles Baughan, managing director at Westaways, said: “We’re very proud of the business we have built and grown, and to celebrate our successes by being part of the Business is GREAT advent calendar is fantastic. Here we join 23 other businesses across the country highlighting the organisations and people doing great things for small businesses, and the government support that has made some of it possible.”

Baughan said joining the UK Trade & Investment Passport to Export programme helped the company to success: “UKTI’s Passport to Export was tremendously helpful and inspirational, giving us useful information about different routes to market and other relevant issues. Personally hosting the Hong Kong delegation was too good an opportunity to pass up. Five years on, we are firm friends with the delegates and doing a healthy amount of business with them.”

Business Minister Matthew Hancock supported the campaign: “There are a record number of small businesses in the UK – over five million in total – and the Business is GREAT campaign is doing a fantastic job of spreading the word about the advice and support out there for small firms who want to grow and create jobs. They fully deserve to be celebrated. We want Britain to be the best place in the world to start and grow, and Westaways is a shining example of why we’re backing small businesses every step of the way.”
