Avian influenza meetings to be held across UK

Following three cases of avian influenza in the UK over the past nine months, the UK Poultry Health and Welfare Group (PHWG) is set to hold a series of seminars across Great Britain and Northern Ireland to help poultry farmers prepare for a potential outbreak.

The British Poultry Council (BPC) claims that avian influenza, or bird flu, is the single biggest threat to the poulty industry on a global scale.

PHWG's upcoming events will address such areas as biosecurity, identifying the disease in its earliest stages, Government compensation, conditions of secondary cleaning and disinfection, restocking poultry numbers and restoring the nation to a bird flu-free zone.

The meetings will also discuss emergency planning for exotic notifiable disease outbreak on farms and subsequent losses as a direct consequence of such outbreaks.

See below for a complete list of the meeting's locations and dates.
