Oakpark Foods launches own-label products
Pork and bacon producers Oakpark Foods, based in Co Tipperary, Ireland, is to launch a selection of its own-label bacon products into supermarket chain Morrisons in the UK.
The business has been providing sliced bacon into the UK under private labels, but this is the first time it will launch its own products into the UK market.
The range includes 50% reduced-fat medallions, smoked and unsmoked, and American-style streaky bacon.
“It will have a big impact on our business,” David Brett, general manager of Oakpark, told Meat Trades Journal.
“We have quite an established brand in Ireland, and the consumer recognises that brand quite strongly. We’re hoping to replicate that in the UK and this is the first step so it’s a big, big move for us. Along with that, there’s the potential that it will bring more jobs to the local area.”
The company said that although Ocado has expressed possible interest in supplying the range, Oakpark wasn’t actively looking for business without first seeing how customers reacted.
The products will be available in Morrisons nationwide from 20 June.
